Where is the best deal on a Cricut Expression?05 Sep

I am looking for a cricut Expression. Where can I find the best deal. I hate to buy from an online site that I don’t know about. I see Hobby lobby and Joann’s has coupons but they say they are not good on Cricuts. I don’t want the personal size.
Thanks

I got mine off of Amazon, but I know you can get good deals through eBay and Craigslist too. Just be careful that you’re dealing with a reputable dealer (ie – the seller has positive feedback or will let you see the machine before you buy) or that the site/service you purchase through offers some level of buyer protection (eBay and Amazon both do).

I’ve always had better luck getting deals online than in the stores near me, but you might have better luck in your area.

Which would you buy a cricut or a Xyron Personal Cutter?03 Sep

A friend of mine already has a Cricut and another one is getting one soon. So I could use those and it might be fun to have the XPC and share. I have heard all sorts of things about both I am so confused!

I own the Xyron personal cutter and like it pretty well. However, after I had the opportunity of using the Cricut at a crop weekend I absolutely fell in love with the Cricut. It is much easier to use and I like the fonts better. The Cricut does cost more than the Xyron and now I don’t feel like I can spend the money, but if you don’t have a cutting machine yet, go with the cricut; it is worth it and you can probably find a good deal on eBay.

How do I make sure the paper is lined up in the Cricut for…?02 Sep

I am trying to make invitations. I bought the "New Arrival" cartridge for my Cricut. I plan to cut out the cards with the machine and use the new cricut color markers to do the writing inside. How do I make sure the card is lined up correctly.

Has anyone done it before, who can share how they did it?

I know everything has to be lined up just right with these machines or you end up going of the paper.

Any help would be great.

I would cut some cheap paper in the same size of your invitations and run it through the machine and see where it prints. you need to make yourself a template or pattern that works and go from there with your invitations.

How do you get decals like Browning deer heads and Ducks Unlimited duck heads for the Cricut machine?30 Aug

I would like to make Browning and DU decals with my cricut Expression machine. How can I get these for my machine?

Hi RC,
Below are some places you can call by phone to see if they handle these decals. Also, Ducks Unlimited has a catalog you can send for. You can locate that info by search engine and it will take you to 5 or 6 of their web sights. If you find these, let me know as I would like a few also. ok? Some of these you will have to do a yellow pages search, etc.

Ducks Unlimited Catalog
Gander Mountain, Cabelas
North American Hunting Club
Whitetails Forever
Local Gun Clubs, Trap-Shoot

Do it Yourself Wedding Invites with the cricut expression?28 Aug

I am getting married next fall and I own a cricut expression. I wanted to try and make some sample invitations and I was wanting some ideas. I need to know what cartridge to use and the layout of some card ideas. Anything anyone can do for me would be so greatly appriciated.

I would try Sure Cuts A Lot software. I bought a copy and I don’t even use my cartridges anymore. With SCAL you can use any font you have on your computer. Which means that if you find a font on Dafont.com or some other free site you can download it and cut it on your cricut. That alone is worth the price. But now they have a new version that cuts any sort of shape you have as well. It use to be only SVG files but now you can use any sort of shape you have on your computer.

Are there any images that come on the Cricut Expression besides the ones in a cartridge?27 Aug

Hey, another craft question for those who have a Cricut Expression-

I am getting ready to purchase the "as seen on TV" Cricut expression bundle, It comes with 2 cartridges and a bunch of other things.

My question is- Are there any images that come on the Cricut alone? or do you have to have a cartridge to get any images from it at all? Thanks so much!

The Cricut Machine is a cartridge based system. It does not have any images loaded into the machine.

The Design Studio software (sold seperately) lets you take the images on the cartridges and make them your own. You can rotate them, skew them or even weld them together to make one big design. The Software does not load any images onto any cartridges or load them onto the machine. With the software you can see and design with all the cartridges that cricut has but you can only cut with the cartridges you own. You have to have the cartridge loaded into the machine to cut with the Design Studio Software.

The Gypsy is basically a portable design studio. You can load the cartridges you own onto it but again you can’t cut with a cartridge unless you own and have loaded that cartridge onto the Gypsy.

There are third party softwares that let you take fonts and shapes from your computer and cut them with your cricut. They are not endorsed by cricut and cricut does not encourage you to buy them. I do own one and love it! I still buy cartridge too though. These softwares do not load the images onto your cricut either so you do need to have your cricut plugged into your computer each time you use any of the above mentioned softwares.

So simply put:
Are there any images that come on the cricut alone? : No
do you have to have a cartridge to get any images from it at all?: Yes

Tips for cutting fabric on the cricut machine?26 Aug

Hi :) I am wanting to try out some applique, and wanted to cut out shapes on my cricut machine. I have looked online for some tips or tutorials, but haven’t really found anything.
I am wanting to know what blade I use, regular or deep. How fast I should cut, and what to set the pressure to.
I will most likely be cutting out thinner fabric, so I doubt I’ll need the deep blade. Would I meed a new mat as well?
Any other tips would be wonderful!

The video covers all that is basic.

Save the paper that you peel from the fusible and use it under and over the fabric to protect the ironing board cover and iron from adhesive build-up.

You can also use a temp spray adhesive and paper to stabilize fabrics that you do not want to fuse to another item.

What can I do with a Cricut Expression?25 Aug

I bought a cricut Expression at the store for $250. I am not sure if I want to keep it. I want to make some cool things but I’ve already invested $250. I see the cartridges are very expensive. It came with essential shapes and the schoolbook cartridge. How much can I do with this without putting any more money into it? Besides scrapbooks, what else can I do with it?

i also bought one on black Friday and still haven’t opened it, cause i also think that you have to spend a lot more purchasing other cartridges, paper, it’s just too many accessories to buy. I want to sell it. and not deal with it. It would of been a lot better if they would have added all the cartridges along with it, cause with just the school one, it seems to me you won’t really get to do much. There is many things you can do with the machine and that’s what sold me BUT you do need a lot more shapes than the ones provided.

How do I get some scrapbooking done with no space?

I am living in a hospital room for weeks at a time. To keep myself occupied, I’d like to do a little scrapbooking, but always overdo it by bringing too much supplies. I ofton forget crucial items like the pictures!

Try digital scrapbooking at CropMom (http://www.cropmom.com). All you need is a computer connected to the Internet and your photos put on your hard drive.

What should I put in a scrapbook I made for my friend’s baby?

My friend is due at any time really, early this June. I bought a cute pink gingham scrapbook that I put her baby’s initials on. I already have pages in it like first steps, etc.
What kind of personal touches can I put in it so that it’s not your general everyday baby scrapbook?

Please, Thankyou and Godbless you for any help

In my daughter’s scrapbook I have a page that is all about the day she was born. What movies were popular, what songs were popular, who was the president, how much gasoline costed, and other important things like that. I also have a calendar that has each month for one year and says height and weight. Each month I take her measurements and record them on the calendar.

What are the best products (shelving, et al) to buy to build your own scrapbooking station at home?

I’m not looking for totes or anything for portable scrapbooking. I want to build a scrapbooking work center in my home office. What are the best products (shelving, cubes, etc) to use? And where can I find them? Thank you for your help!

Brand new in my Micheal’s store this month are Making Memories cubes, drawers (2) and turntable table top organizers. The cubes and drawers fit together and stack together. All are white and are made of MDF. Prices are good but the cubes only have 2 or 3 compartments. They also have a huge, lovely, white wall shelf. It’s a bout 4 inches deep and holds jars and stuff with 2 paper towel like holders for ribbon spools to spin freely on. Looks really nice. That’s what I would do but depending on how your paper is organized, you may need lots of cubes to separate colours etc. Good luck!

Where is the best place to start learning about digital scrapbooking?

I’ve done paper scrapping for a long while, but I’m terribly behind. I think digital scrapbooking might just be what I need to get back on track, but I’m overwhelmed with all of the info out there. Help! Where should I start?

First I would start by looking at the software you are going to use. How comfortable are you with using it? If the answer is not so much, I would recommend getting books and such on the software that will teach you how to do various things. If you are using Adobe Photoshop (CS, Elements, etc.), then you can access Adobe’s website for tutorials and tons of information. They also do a podcast if you are interested in that. I have found those useful. Nothing beats getting to see how someone does something step by step!!

If you are using other software, chek out their customer website to see if they offer any how-tos. Many of the various programs have a lot of similarities so even if you don’t have Adobe, you might want to take a gander over there.

Once you feel that you have a decent handle on your software I would go to a limited number of websites. Pick one that you feel give you the best directions on how-tos and have a forum to discuss things. Forums are a great chance to interact and get help when you are stuck! They often will also have archieves so that you can look for answers to questions that you have that may have been asked before. I will list a couple examples below of some websites that I have enjoyed for digital scrapping.

What are some good ideas for my Beta Club scrapbook?

I’m competing in scrapbook this upcoming weekend. The theme of our book is "Road Trip". So far we have done the membership pages which have each member on a "License" with maps as backgrounds. I using those green signs with the name of the city in how many miles as the content page, and a billboard as the title page. I need help with what to do on the officer pages, and service and activity pages. The activity pages and service pages are basically pictures and captions, I just need theme ideas. Thanks so much! We really want to win!

Route 66 with its vintage signs, the 50 states, do a convertible with everyone’s picture collages into the seats, a junk food page/spread (you know like Funyuns and truck stop burritos), National monuments or places people take road trips to like the Grand Canyon or from the snow country to the south.

Hope that helps.

What are good ideas for displaying pictures for a scrapbook?

I’ve seen several ways to display pictures in a scrapbook to save pages–a flip book, folding pages vertically/horizontally and even in one of those paper game fortune tellers kids play with (with numbers or colors). Any other ideas? I’ve been trying to look on sites but I’m not sure what to search under.

http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/shows_scb/0,2044,DIY_14332,00.html has TONS of scrapbooking ideas, plus there’s a tv show that you can watch that does some of the ideas on the website.
